South Africa's leading cinema chain Ster Kinekor was concerned about the amount of customers they were losing over the years to online streaming services. They approached VMLY&R for a creative solution to the problem that the youth no longer wanted to go to the movies. The feedback from customers was that they didn't enjoy going to the movies, as they wanted to talk to their friends, and other customers were always shushing them, while the snacks were too expensive.

We created a proof of concept application for Ster Kinekor where friends can meet through the app and arrange their next movie. The app had an interactive chat service where friends could be added to groups, talk to each other and book their next movie with seats and snacks through the app. They could also view trailers and tag their friends. The application was called "The Social Club".

We conducted an audience impression to gain insight into the issue and develop a creative solution that addressed the needs of the target demographic. I then designed and the developers coded the artist impression for proof of concept, creating an interactive chat service for friends to connect and arrange their next movie. We also included features such as trailer viewing and friend tagging to make it an engaging and enjoyable experience.
